Welcome to the Kell Orchestra and Kell Guitar Class Website!

Here you will find information about all of the classes that Mrs. Gomez teaches.

1.  Hanging Basket Fundraiser due March 25th

2.  Hoodies are available for $25.00.  Grey pullover with your name and instrument clef on the back.  Money is due March 25th.

3.  Washington DC Trip Parent Meeting at 6:30pm on Monday, April 1st.  Chaperones, please be there by 6:00.

Our next guitar playing test will be on Friday, March 22nd. It will be on the e minor pentatonic scale pattern in triplets. The test is focused on finger dexterity so the faster you can play it, the higher your grade can be.

To earn a 70, play the scale at 30 bpm to quarter note or 90 bpm to triplet.
To earn an 80, play the scale at 40 bpm to quarter note or 120 bpm to triplet.
To earn a 90, play the scale at 50 bpm to quarter note or 150 bpm to triplet.
To earn a 100, play the scale at 60 bpm to quarter note or 180 bpm to triplet.

You will have time to practice the scale/pattern in class next week.

Guitar Class is working on learning Riffs and Power Chords

Riffs are short, musical melodies that are repeated in a song or piece of music.  Often, the riff defines the song.

Power Chords are barred chords that usually involve only two strings, but move around the fretboard more than root position chords.

Our two songs for learning these new concepts are “Wild Thing” and “Crazy Train.”

Orchestra Update for March, 2013

1.  Holiday Concert DVDs are IN!  I have passed them out to all students who have paid.  If you are interested in purchasing one, please let me know.  ($10)

2.  Hanging Flower and Foliage Baskets Fundraiser will start TOMORROW (March 5th, 2013).  Orders are due on March 22.  Hanging Baskets will be delivered on the day of our Spring Pops Concert  (May 2nd).  Please pick them up promptly, since the orchestra room seems to suck the life out of the plants in a day or two.

3.  Orchestra trip to DC is coming up!  Thanks to all who have paid in full.

4.  We are preparing the music for our May 2nd Pops Concert.  Please join us at 7:00pm in the Auditorium.  Our Theme this year is Mystery/Action Adventure movies.  James Bond, Pirates, and Sherlock Holmes. 

Guitar Composition Wild THing

Here is the Rubric for the next Guitar Assessment.

In guitar class we are working on our chromatic scale and doing an in-depth study of Greensleesves.  Students are learning accompanimental picking patterns, chord charts and how to play the melody and bass.

Orchestra Update: January and February 2013

Dear Parents and Students,

Happy New Year!!!

1. Our PreFestival Concert is Thursday, February 7^th at 7:00pm in the Kell Auditorium.  DVDs of the concert will be available for $10.
2. Large Group Performance Evaluation times and dates are in!!!  Please see below.  Festival will be held at Lassiter High School this year.  You are welcome to attend the concert!

Festival Dates and Times:

Chamber Orchestra (Period 04)  Monday, February 11^th.  Depart Kell at 1:1pm; return around 6:00pm.  Performance time is 3:45pm.

Sinfonia  (Period 05)  Tuesday, February 12^th.  Depart Kell at 1:15pm; return around 6:00pm.  Performance time is 4:15pm.

Concert Orchestra  (Period 03)  Wednesday, February 13^th.  Depart Kell at 10:30am; return around 1:30pm.  Performance time is 12:00pm.

1. DVDs of the Holiday concert are STILL not ready.  I will let you know as soon as they become available!
2. Orchestra Trip to Washington DC is April 17-20^th.  Final payment is Due February 7^th at the Pre-Festival Concert.  If you are not paid in full by February 8^th you will lose your place and all monies put toward the trip so far.
3. May 10^th: Orchestra Banquet
4. May 20^th:  Baccalaureate (Chamber Orchestra Only)

Guitar Class Final Song Project Rubric

Hello Parents and Students!

1.  There will be an after school rehearsal on Tuesday, December 4th from 3:30-5:30 in the Band Room. All students are expected to attend.

2. Our Holiday Concert is combined with Chorus and Jazz Band and will be on Thursday, December 6th at 7:00pm in the Kell Auditorium.  The kids must stay after school all afternoon for a huge rehearsal. Be sure they have their uniform with them when they come on Thursday.

3.  December 14th Chamber Orchestra will be performing at 1st Baptist Church at 5:00.  Details will be coming soon.

4.  Please pay your orchestra dues!  We still have supplies, music, and clinicians coming.

5.  Kell Orchestra Booster Association is looking for both a treasurer for next year, and someone to head up Hospitality.  If anyone is interested please let me know.

Thanks for all you for me and for your kids!  We are having a great year.  See you on December 6th!

November Update 2013

Hello Kell Orchestra Parents and Students,

1. Thanks for a very successful Bowling Night!  We had almost 100 kids show to up to bowl and have fun, and we made some money to put toward the DC Trip.

1. Second DC Trip Payment is due Friday, November 9^th.  ($200)  Please make the check out to KOBA (Kell Orchestra Booster Association.)

1. The HOLIDAY PROGRAM will be Thursday, December 6^th, at 7:00pm in the Auditorium.

1. REHEARSAL for the Holiday Program will be Tuesday, December 4^th from 3:30-5:00pm.  ALL ORCHESTRA STUDENTS MUST ATTEND.  Chamber will be done at 4:00, Sinfonia will be done at 4:30, and Concert Orchestra will be done by 5:00.

1. DUES DUES DUES!  Please pay your orchestra dues so we can begin purchasing music and supplies for our final Pops Concert in May.  ($150)

1. The following students paid the $200 deposit for the orchestra trip and will be traveling to Washington DC in April.
