All students will receive a grade for their performance in orchestra class. The grade will be 20% formative, 70% summative, and 10% final exam. More details are below.
20% Formative: Weekly Rehearsal Performance
Students are graded on their daily performance and participation in class/rehearsal. This will include grades by teacher observation, part checks, scales, or written theory work/discussion.
70% Summative:
- Instrument Performance*
- Periodic live and recorded sight-reading tests
- Periodic live and recorded part checks
- Periodic live and recorded scale or etude checks
- Live and recorded Concert Performances
- Seating auditions throughout year
- Placement audition in March/April for following semester
- Theory/History Work and Written Reflections
- Theory Worksheets or Quizzes
- Music History worksheets or quizzes
- Written Reflections on performances
10% Final Exam (Summative)
*All instrument performance grades can be replayed at any time during the semester for a higher grade, regardless of the original grade.
